Children are like pencils

Children are like pencils. They are all different, their personalities are colorful, their minds are sharp and they write the future of this world.

Pediatricians’ patients are children, from infants to teenagers. At Lynda Louw Interiors we understand the developmental stages of children exceptionally well. We intuitively knew that the theme for this practice had to be something special. The brief was exciting, so we literally sharpened our pencils.

The doctors wished for a warm and aesthetically pleasing practice where children of all ages can feel welcome.

We chose a theme which is gender neutral, suitable for all ages, fun, positive and original.

All decor and object d’art were carefully thought through, custom designed, manufactured and some of it were even hand made. The one of a kind mirror frame, which was designed by Lynda and manufactured exclusively for this practice, comprises 441 short pencils. The lampshade was also designed by Lynda and custom made for this project. We rounded the theme off with giant over sized pencils and placed them in a tin bucket on the reception desk. These giant pencils were also custom designed and manufactured especially for this project.  The tin buckets were repeated in the play area to host crayons and pencils.

The selection of upholstery fabrics brings an element of sophistication. An easy to clean vinyl and upholstery fabric is especially suitable for children visiting a Pediatrician’s practice.

The wallpaper tied the whole theme and all the colors together and made all the difference to make this once cold and clinical area warm and welcoming.

Project management were done in a meticulous way. All relevant roll players, deliveries and installations were coordinated  and scheduled in sequence to transform this practice within two hours. Minimal disruption is key when working in an operational medical practice.

We were so excited to deliver this project and when all was done, we were almost sad to let it go.  This was a wonderful creative journey and a project we thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end.
